I find that I have such high expectations of perfection and goodness from Tolkien's elves….and then they do crap like THIS and I get all flustered and want to pull out my hair and scream "WHYYYYYYYYY????!!!!!"
Also I find that I keep coming back to this picture over and over. I love all your Tolkien work, but this one seriously brings me back like a magnet. I think it's the intensity in Celegorm's face. He looks so serious and determined.
Wonderfully done! And don't get sidetracked by hair colour comments. Tolkien called many dark haired characters fair: Boromir, Frodo and Arwen for example. Just go what feels right to you. But this image is a huge huge inspiration for a novel that I will write for a friend of mine. So thanks!!!
I don't think Tolkien ever explicitly states that Celegorm is blonde. He is called "Celegorm, the fair", the elvish word for fair meaning both blonde and beautiful. So it could be interpreted that Celegorm is beautiful. I personally envisioned Celegorm much like your picture (which is beautiful btw).
I think this may be the best portrait of me yet, my friend. And of course with my brother and Lady Luthien, the beauty is increased tenfold. But clearly you cannot deny I am the fairest of all.
But really though, he's right. I can't help but stare at Celegorm's face... it's so... transfixing. It probably means I'm a narcissist, but oh well. I love his expression...and hair... and bow and clothes and everything. He looks so much like an elf-lord! And Curufin definitely looks like the younger brother. This is so gorgeous. I want to wallpaper it but it's not big enough D:
